Traces the history of animated cartoons from the 1892 hand-painted, hand-run picture sequences shown in France through the invention of movie films. Explains that live-action animation is the projection of twenty-four drawings for every second of film. Shows sequences from the first sound cartoon--Walt Disney's Skeleton Dance, the development of Mutt and Jeff, and the early works of other animators.
