Our traditional journal vendors are transitioning from being publishers to being data analytics companies. A few of them, including RELX (Reed Elsevier + LexisNexis) have even become data brokers that sell dossiers of personal information to ICE. In this discussion, we’ll look at how companies’ research platforms are now part of larger data analytics systems, and what that means for our privacy and intellectual freedom. We’ll also think about open access projects and other efforts that could help ensure that people who use our libraries can do their research without being subjected to surveillance.

We will discuss the most common analysis tools for describing your data and performing significance tests (Correlation, T-test, ANOVA, Cross-tabs, etc), and how they should be selected based on the type of data and the type of research question you have. This is geared towards students or faculty beginning their foray into quantitative analysis of research data, would like an introduction to SPSS or JMP, or would just like to step back and get a framework for how to navigate “what analysis to use when.”

In the first recording (45000000022399), Budapest conducts a workshop on ritual bathing and other subjects in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, on April 8, 1977. This a second-generation recording, transferred from an original video recording not held by the IU South Bend Archives. In the second recording (45000000022407), Budapest is interviewed on April 9, 1977, by Gloria Kaufman, who long supported and promoted Budapest's work. The third recording (45000000022415) is a edited, condensed version of that interview created for the South Bend Media Network, with host segments by Kaufman.

Zerbinetta is a piece from Ariadne auf Naxos, a German opera created by Richard Strauss in 1916.
