- Video bio of David Smith, inducted to Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2005. Produced by: Bob Smith; Post Production by: DreamVision Media Partners; Archive Footage: WISH TV and WTTV; David Smith’s broadcasting career began in 1951 in Bloomington, Indiana, as an announcer/newscaster at WTTS-FM. He then joined WTTV-TV for three years doing air work, producing, directing, editing film and serving as a cameraman. For 20 years, he worked at WISH-TV in Indianapolis in management as program and production manager. In 1971, Smith created and hosted a thematic movie series called “When Movies Were Movies,” a series that ran for 10 years. In 1975 he joined the Ball State University faculty, where he taught telecommunications courses, gaining the rank of professor before retiring. Smith is a former president of the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers and has authored three books. --Words from the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers
