Howard, professor of geology at Stanford University, who served as geologist with the Fourth Byrd Expedition to Antarctica in 1946-47. With the aid of three dimensional models, they demonstrate the ways in which a narrow stream can shape a vast expanse of land which is dozens of times its width. They discuss the way in which an area of the Earth, just as a man, goes through the ages of “youth,” “maturity,” and “old age.”

This film describes the origin and growth of glaciers; surveys the work of glaciologists in trying to understand the structure of ice and its importance in the study of climatology, meteorology, and geology. Included are scenes of glaciologists at work in Antarctica, Greenland, Alaska, Washington, and on Mt. Kenya.
Dr Harbaugh's guest is Dr. Stanley Davis, assistant professor of geology at Stanford University. A graduate of the University of Nevada with a M.S. from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. from Yale, he has also worked with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Kansas and Missouri Geological Surveys. Dr. Davis makes his own rocks on this program. In doing so, he demonstrates how nature is able to make solid rock through the copaction of clays, sands, and silts under great pressure. They discuss the part of North America which although now dry land was once part of the ocean.

Father Linehan uses charts and diagrams to explain the interior structure of the Earth and the transmission of Earth waves through the various layers of the Earth. Dr. Gould emphasizes two facts: (1) seismology is a science that permits us to develop an x-ray picture of the Earth’s interior and, turning to Antarctica, he notes (2) that ice, in the Antarctic, is a rock and hence satisfactory for seismic x-raying. Portrays the frequency of a mutant in the gene pool as reaching a state of equilibrium when, per generation, its origination by mutation equals its elimination by genetic death. A Teaching Film Custodians film about the presentation and conventions of live theatre at Shakespeare's Globe Theater circa 1600. Incorporating footage from the prologue of the 1944 British Technicolor feature film, "Henry V", directed by and starring Laurence Olivier, and graphics, this film illustrates the location, and appearance of the Globe and Rose theaters, the activity before a typical presentation, where the audience was seated, and the manner in which the Globe Theater was used. We see the audience entering the theater, gallants taking their places on stage, the orange girl and cider man hawking their wares, and the actors preparing for their entrance. Man learned early to read the messages of the footprint and the broken twig and the book of the clouds and the tides, as truly as though these were printed texts. Soon he began to make readable marks, blazing trails, signaling with piled stones and scratches on rock. Out of this came primitive pictograph for purposes of magic, commemoration, and communication. He talked to strangers in a sign language, the very symbols of which later were written down as characters. Simple pictures of these things came to stand for complicated ideas, as well as the things themselves. This opening program shows how very elaborate messages were early conveyed by simple signs.

Simpleton dreams of living in a palace. He takes the silver coin his mother has given him and sets out to seek his fortune. One day on the road, he meets a man with a goose and buys the goose to give the King. Two guards at the palace refuse to let Simpleton see the King until he promises to give them half of what the King gives him for the goose. The King is very pleased with the goose and asks Simpleton what he wants in return. Simpleton replies he wants a beating. When the King asks his reason for such a reward, Simpleton tells him of his treatment by the guards. The King orders the guards out of the palace and appoints Simpleton as a Royal member of the guard.
