Howard, professor of geology at Stanford University, who served as geologist with the Fourth Byrd Expedition to Antarctica in 1946-47. With the aid of three dimensional models, they demonstrate the ways in which a narrow stream can shape a vast expanse of land which is dozens of times its width. They discuss the way in which an area of the Earth, just as a man, goes through the ages of “youth,” “maturity,” and “old age.”
