Herman B Wells was named acting president of Indiana University in 1937 and then president the following year. He served as president until June 30, 1962. After his retirement from the role of president, IU created the position of University Chancellor, a position which Dr. Wells held until his death in 2000. Recording of Herman B Wells' speech at the Granville Wells High School commencement in Jamestown, Indiana, on May 23, 1971.
