In 1985, Stacy was hired as the receptionist for WIBC-FM in Indianapolis. After winning “Employee of the Year” in 1989, Stacy was rewarded with a guest stint on the morning show on WIBC-FM, hosted by Jeff Pigeon. Stacy was such an instant hit that station managers decided to continue having her co-host the morning show, even though she was still working her full-time job as the station’s receptionist. In less than a year, the station made her a full-time on-air personality and morning show co-host. She would continue in that role, despite the ever-changing radio landscape, for more than 20 years. In 2010, Stacy finally stepped down from the morning drive and began a new direction as the traffic reporter for WIBC-FM. Since 2005, Stacy has hosted “The First Day Sunday Magazine Show” and she continues as host of the “Caregiver Crossing” show on WIBC-FM. Students are at the heart of a university campus. How students respond to local, national, and international events provides insight into student life and their socio-historical contexts that define a campus and that campus’ unique history. The Bicentennial Student Newspapers Project aims to digitize student newspapers across five IU campuses: IU East, IUPUI, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest and IU South Bend. Those papers will join the IU Southeast student newspapers already digitized to create a rich corpus of IU-wide student newspapers ripe for research. Once digitized, over 50,000 pages of student newspapers spanning the 1930s to the 2010s will be available for discovery in Pages Online by Summer 2020.

741. The Effects of Shift Work on Depression and Anxiety (09:04)

This project intended to study the relationship between shift work (specifically third shift), and its effects on depression and anxiety symptoms. Working nights has shown to have serious negative side effects on one’s physical and mental health. Hypotheses were made that those working third shift would experience higher levels of depression and anxiety symptoms than those who did not work overnight. Participants surveyed in this research worked either first, second, third or a rotating shift, and were asked questions pertaining to levels of anxiety and depression in a typical work week. After analyzing the data from all eligible participants, the study found that there were significantly higher levels of depression in those working third shift, rather than first shift, and that there were significantly higher levels of anxiety in those working second shift rather than first shift.

The HathiTrust Digital Library (HTDL) was founded in 2008 with just over 2 million volumes in the collection. Today there are over 17 million volumes ranging from 6th-century psalters to 21st-century academic texts. The diverse contents of the HTDL include government documents, academic journal articles, and monographs from all the disciplines one would find represented in a typical academic research library. While the majority of materials are in English, there are many volumes in German, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Latin. Researchers may perform text analysis on the contents of HTDL by utilizing the many text analysis tools and data sets provided by the HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC). The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC), based at IU Bloomington, develops infrastructure, tools, and services to support Text Data Mining of the HTDL corpus. These include off-the-shelf web-based text analysis tools, a secure data capsule computing environment for analysis of rights-restricted content, and the HTRC Extracted Features Data Set, which provides volume-level and page-level word counts and other metadata for the entire corpus. This presentation will discuss the current contents of the HTDL collection and its benefits as a data source and provide examples of existing research facilitated by HTDL collections and HTRC resources. In addition, this presentation will give an overview of the various HTRC text analysis tools and the different options for analyzing public domain and copyrighted material.

747. The Open Access Policy in Action: Automating Author’s Rights (49:11)

This February was the third year anniversary of the Open Access Policy, authored to ensure the accessibility and availability of university scholarship to the public for future generations. When the policy was passed, the Scholarly Communication Department was tasked with encouraging several thousand faculty to annually deposit their work into a new institutional repository, IUScholarWorks Open. To facilitate the deposit process, developers in Library Technologies developed the Bloomington Research Information Tracking Engine, also known as BRITE. The BRITE application is able to check the open access and copyright status of articles, compile emails to faculty, and prepare metadata for batch deposit into IUScholarWorks Open. While some manual intervention is still necessary, BRITE has helped our team automate a normally extensive and time-consuming process. This session will walk through the process of development for the BRITE application, as well as the documentation that allows users and employees with little to no subject knowledge on copyright, metadata, or automation to successfully navigate the application. We will also discuss some of our plans for the BRITE application in the future, and look for insight into what development our users may need moving forward.
