- Hubert C. Heffner was a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Speech, Theatre, and Dramatic Literature at Indiana University. In addition to his teaching responsibilities within the Dept. of Speech and Theatre, Heffner was acting director of the Indiana University Theatre from 1959-60 and 1970-71, and he was involved with the Indiana Theatre Circle. He retired in 1971 but continued as an occasional guest lecturer at IUB until his death in 1985. Audiovisual materials in Heffner's papers consists of "The Nature of Drama" recordings produced by Indiana University Television and the Department of Theatre and Drama. Professor Heffner discusses the melodrama as a form of Theatre, and how it compares to the standard ancient Greek forms. He also discusses the features of melodrama as a form.
