The program also included a reenactment of a surgery performed by William H. Wishard, a surgeon of the 48th Indiana Infantry Regiment (portrayed by Fred Schaefer). An Indiana native, John Shaw Billings was a Civil War surgeon, medical librarian and hospital designer.
